Children are placed into a Book Group based on their birth year
Each year, every Book Group receives a carefully selected collection of age-appropriate books.
The following table outlines the 2026 Imagination Library Book Groups.

How do Book Groups work?
Children move to the next Book Group every January as they get older.
For example, a child born in 2024 was in Group 2 last year, is in group 3 this year, and will be in group 4 next year.
This means children receive books based on their birth year, rather than their exact age.

Who Chooses the Books?
Each year, our Book Selection Committee comes together to choose the titles that will feature on the Imagination Library book list. Considering each book through the eyes of children and families, the committee works to ensure the collection reflects the diversity of the wider community and introduces themes and concepts that support children’s development and a lifelong love of reading.
